White Paper:

Preparing for the Unitary Patent

The rise of the new Unitary Patent (UP) and the Unified Patent Court (UPC)

In 2023 the new Unitary Patent (UP) and the Unified Patent Court (UPC) will see the light of day. The Unified Patent Court has been created to put an end to parallel litigation concerning the same European patent in all countries where it is validated. They will create an alternative option, alongside the classic European patent or the national route, for protecting inventions. Businesses, patent proprietors and lawyers should start preparing now, if they have not already done so.

Preparing for the UP?

This white paper from Kluwer IP Law explains the main characteristics of the new system, and decisions that will need to be made to get ready and to protect inventions (both new and existing) in the new system.

It provides practical insights in:

  • The new patent application process;
  • How it relates to national law;
  • The Unitary Patent countries;
  • How much does it cost & court fees?
It also shares insights into local divisions, language of proceedings, transitional period and sunrise period, and many other related topics.

Authors of Wolters Kluwer’s reputed Manual IP from various UP member states, as well as experts from the international high-tech company Philips, shed a light on their expectations.

The white paper is downloadable for free after filling up the form on the right.
